Located in Santa Clara County, roughly an hour south of San Francisco, San Jose is a large bustling city. Running through the center of San Jose, Guadalupe River Park features sports facilities, bike trails, pathways, and lawns in beautifully landscaped surroundings. The Municipal Rose Garden is another San Jose gem, featuring over 4,000 rose bushes and highlighting 200 varieties. The garden also features Douglas fir trees, quiet lawns, and a central fountain.
San Jose is surrounded by some of Northern California's wildest and most impressive natural scenery. Residents can easily escape the hustle and bustle of the big city, and it takes no time to reach unspoiled natural areas. To the south, Almaden Quicksilver County Park offers miles of hiking, biking, and horse riding trails, as well as abundant wildlife. The rolling hills contain plenty of evidence of California's mining past, and local guides give tours of the fascinating ruins.
To the east, Joseph D. Grant County Park lies in the foothills of the Diablo Range. This enormous 9,500-acre natural area is a popular spot for camping adventures, as well as hiking, mountain biking, and stargazing.
