The primary shopping and retail district of Portola is situated along San Bruno Avenue, which runs down the eastern side of the neighborhood, just inside Highway 101.
There is a convenient BART station in nearby Glen Park, providing Portola residents with excellent access to downtown San Francisco and other areas of the Bay Area.
The residents of Portola enjoy some of the best weather in San Francisco, as the fog that frequently covers the city during the summer months usually dissipates before reaching the neighborhood.
