Living in Mission Bay

Mission Bay is a rapidly developing area. It is more a locus of cutting-edge modernity than a historic neighborhood. The UCSF campus is situated here, built on an area that was once an industrial zone and is now a center of healthcare and biotechnology research.

Here are some of the local amenities of the district:

Mission Creek Park

Adjacent to the Mission Bay basin is a waterfront development of apartment complexes, grassy expanses, and pedestrian plazas which is a pleasant area to enjoy a book or a lunch. There's a playpark nearby, and you may see kayakers practicing their moves in the basin.

Chase Center

Mission Bay contains the Chase Center, a state-of-the-art sports and entertainment venue that hosts world-class artists and performances and is the home of the Golden State Warriors. In recent years, Elton John, The Killers, Bon Iver, Metallica, Chic, and many others have played here, and there are restaurants, bars, and shops on site.

Local Brewpubs

Several local breweries are stationed within Mission Bay, including Olfactory Brewing, Ballast Point, and the taproom at Harmonic Brewing in Thrive City. The latter offers bayfront views while you dine.

Parklab Gardens

Parklab Gardens is a well-landscaped pocket park that contains a mini-golf course and on-premise food options. The park is home to Indonesian, Filipino, and Californian street food, doughnuts, and salty margaritas. The cabanas and bungalow seating areas are available to reserve for parties.

Bakar Fitness Center

Although part of the UCSF Campus at Mission Bay, members of the public can apply for membership to the gym and rooftop pool at the Bakar Fitness Center. The Center also runs kayaking classes, paddleboarding classes, and a range of fitness programs.

Day passes are also available for drop-in sessions of badminton, basketball, volleyball, racquetball, squash, and Pickleball.
