Homes for Sale in Inner Sunset

The Inner Sunset neighborhood is a hidden gem of San Francisco that is not very well known, even among long-time San Francisco residents. Because it has the term “sunset” in its name, people associate Inner Sunset with the more fog-bound areas of the Central and Outer Sunset neighborhoods and the smaller Doelger homes that were built in those areas during the 1930’s and 40’s.

About Inner Sunset

While neighboring areas were mainly developed during the 1930s and 1940s, Inner Sunset's homes were primarily built between 1910 and 1920. The neighborhood boasts many larger, Victorian-style and Edwardian-era homes.

The retail and dining scene in Inner Sunset is thriving and among the best in the city. The diverse restaurant scene is centered around 9th Avenue and Irving, which is comparable to more well-known areas like 24th Street in Noe Valley.

Inner Sunset is easily accessible by public transit. The N-Judah streetcar line runs through the neighborhood and becomes an underground subway line that goes straight downtown after passing through Cole Valley. The neighborhood also has efficient bus links to the Forest Hill Muni station, which provides three additional subway links to downtown and other neighborhoods.

The southeastern edge of Golden Gate Park borders Inner Sunset, offering residents easy access to countless resources and events for recreation, education, and culture. Golden Gate Park is a treasure of San Francisco, and its proximity is a major benefit to those who live nearby.

San Francisco's weather can be influenced by fog from the Pacific Ocean, particularly during the summer months. While some summers are worse than others, the city still enjoys many beautiful, sunny days throughout the year. Inner Sunset is situated in a transition zone in terms of fog and weather since it is several miles inland from Ocean Beach. Neighboring areas to the west tend to be cooler, while areas to the east tend to be sunnier and warmer when the fog comes in.
