Primarily a residential neighborhood, many of the homes in Wooded Area occupy large lots. This, coupled with the absence of sidewalks and the abundance of mature trees, lends the neighborhood a timeless, semi-rural feel. Most of Wooded Area's streets are quiet. Residents enjoy making their way through the community in safety, stopping here and there to admire the majestic views across the Pacific Ocean.
Point Loma Peninsula is home to many wonderful open spaces, parks, and beaches, several of which sit within the boundaries of Wooded Area. McCullough Park is a small, hidden green space tucked away in the grounds of Point Loma Nazarene University. The picturesque park is a great place to watch the sunset over the ocean.
Lying along the neighborhood's western border, Sunset Cliffs Natural Park is a super-popular place for locals and visitors alike. The 50-acre portion within Wooded Area features impressive coastal bluffs and stairs leading down to a fantastic sea cave. This park is also a great place to watch the sun sink below the horizon, as its name suggests.
There isn't much in the way of commercial activity in Wooded Area, although a supermarket on Catalina Boulevard provides a convenient place for residents to stock up on groceries. When locals search for shopping, dining, and entertainment, there's an endless supply of options within easy reach.
Close by, on Point Loma's bayside, the La Playa neighborhood is home to a huge selection of restaurants, many serving fresh, local seafood. Further north, Liberty Station has emerged as one of San Diego's premier arts, culture, and entertainment areas. There are restaurants, breweries, and hotels galore here, as well as numerous museums and galleries.
