About Carmel Valley

Carmel Valley is an elegantly designed community, with most of its residential and commercial infrastructure occupying the area’s upland mesas. This means that residents enjoy almost endless recreation opportunities in the untouched canyons. There are miles of hiking trails, beautiful open spaces, and many community parks throughout Carmel Valley, and the moderate climate means that locals can spend time outdoors throughout the year.

Mountain biking, hiking, and horseback riding are among the most popular pursuits in Carmel Valley, and Las Peñasquitos Canyon Preserve is a favorite local haunt that encompasses 4,000 acres of open space. There are miles of trails here as well as canyons, waterfalls, and wildlife.

Nearby Torrey Pines Natural Reserve also features miles of trails, and some of the best views in the area can be found along the way. It's even possible to make your way down to the Torrey Pines State Beach from here to enjoy some sun, sand, and surf.

For those who’d rather spend the day on the links, there are plenty of fantastic golf courses within easy reach of Carmel Valley. The Grand Del Mar Golf Club is the closest option, featuring a Tom Fazio-designed private course as well as top-notch facilities such as a swimming pool, tennis courts, and a fitness center.

There's an established equestrian culture in Carmel Valley, with several centers in the area. Concord Equestrian Center, which is located at Del Mar Horse Park, is home to boarding stables and a dressage ring and also offers lessons, training, and annual events.

Carmel Valley’s central location means residents can quickly and easily access plenty of nearby shopping and dining. With San Diego so close, it’s also easy to experience some of the best entertainment in the world, ranging from the museums in Balboa Park to the San Diego Zoo and SeaLife Aquarium.

Perhaps the most sophisticated shopping and dining can be found at One Paseo, a newer mixed-use development in the northern part of the community. One Paseo features beautiful landscaping and a real community feel and is home to dozens of fantastic restaurants, chic cafes, and elegant boutiques.

The arts and culture scene in Carmel Valley is mainly centered around the public library and community center. The library offers loads of mainly kid-centric activities and classes, while the community center hosts classes and events for everyone, including art and dance workshops.
