Vista Las Palmas Real Estate

The homes in this compact L-shaped zone were the creation of architect Charles Dubois, and the firm of Palmer and Krisel, who created more than 330 stylish, modern homes, optimized for the hot, dry climate of the Palm Springs region. The old part of town dates to the late 1950s and contains many restored historic homes, often with characteristic “butterfly roofs” which slant gracefully inward.

20th Century Modern Classics

Highlights of any architectural drive - or organized tour - through Vista Las Palmas include the iconic “House of Tomorrow” at 1350 Ladera, a custom home featured in style magazines. Elvis and Priscilla Presley honeymooned here in 1968. A planar, cantilevered glass lounge sits under dramatic batwing eaves.

Elsewhere in the neighborhood, there are 15 examples of the “Swiss Miss” style, in which a A-frame gable reminiscent of a Swiss chalet is flanked with long side wings, to ensure privacy and an airy, dramatic interior. Open plan layouts have an L or V-shape, depending on the terrain, since Vista Las Palmas is situated among rocky foothills.

Living in Vista Las Palmas

Many homeowners Vista Las Palmas are snowbirds, living in Palm Springs in the winter and then returning to their summer homes in springtime. However, some locals are year-round: if you’re lucky, you may be invited to one of the legendary parties thrown at “Leisureland” where art openings and soirees are held for the local grandees.

A small number of properties are on the market at any given time and these architectural classics come at a premium.
