Homes for Sale in Pacifica

Property prices in Pacifica are more modest than many other Bay area cities, with a range of ranch-style homes and modern builds. Inland properties tend to be more affordable than those with an ocean view, and single-family homes outnumber apartments in the city.

Living in Pacifica

As its name suggests, Pacifica is a city on the Bay Area's Pacific Coast. The town is compact but boasts a six-mile stretch of prime coastline with excellent beaches. Its neighborhoods ascend from the ocean into the hills and sheltered valleys. Foggy days in Pacifica are common, but there's plenty of Californian sunshine, too.

Rockaway beach is one of the most historically popular destinations for keen surfers and locals seeking seafood eateries, cafes, and bars. However, the city has many other stretches of pristine coastline, including Pacifica State Beach, with its sandy crescent, foaming breakers, and homes curving up the rocky hillsides.

Residents head to Mussel Rock Park Beach for more rugged terrain to explore its small trail network or admire the rocky cliffs and soaring seabirds. Mori Point offers some of the best clifftop views, and Point San Pedro Beach draws photographers with its dramatic rock formations and stunning sunsets.

Pacifica's geography prevents expansion and preserves its small-town charm. Bound by the ocean, surrounding hills, and San Andreas Lake to the east, it is an enclave with independent butchers, bakers, cafes, and markets, resisting the homogeneity of the big chains. As might be expected, there are many surf shops, but you’ll also find local designers, potteries, bicycle shops, vintage shops, and thrift stores.

It's also an area that emphasizes healthy living with plenty of yoga and martial arts gyms, spas, wellness clinics, and health food stores. Pacifica has a low-key bohemian vibe rather than a high-end pampering vibe.

Locals enjoy the Sweeney Ridge Trail, which runs from Mori Ridge east and south to California historical Landmark 394, the point at which the Portola Expedition first “discovered” the San Francisco Bay. Art and history lovers are well-served by the Sanchez Art Center, with its colorful mosaics and celebration of local artists, and the nearby Sanchez Adobe Park, where you can visit a classic Mexican adobe ranch dating back to the mid-nineteenth century.

Rockaway Beach is also the location for the Coastside Farmers Market, held every Wednesday from 2 pm until 6 pm, selling everything from Californian fruit to locally made chocolate. Orchid enthusiasts can enjoy Shelldance Gardens, a nursery in operation since 1976, a horticulturalist's dream. It includes research and education facilities for those fascinated by these rare and magical blooms.

People move to Pacifica for its blend of oceanside beauty and small-town tranquility. However, it is close enough to San Francisco for commuters and the airport for frequent travelers.
