Living in Morgan Hill

Morgan Hill is part of the Santa Clara Valley AVA (American Viticultural Area) and is home to several major wineries. By contrast, it also supports several high-tech electronics manufacturers. These industries help support a diverse, middle-class population. Morgan Hill is not a geographical feature. It's the surname of a Missouri businessman, Hiram Morgan Hill, who, in the 1880s, inherited much of the estate which now comprises the city.

Cyclists can travel on a dedicated bike trail from Anderson Lake to San Jose, and there are many outdoor recreational opportunities in the area. Popular parks include the Community Park to the south of the city and the Davidson Habitat Preserve at the northern end of town. Adjacent to the Davidson College campus, the latter is a 100-acre site used for ecological studies, birdwatching, and jogging.

Surrounded by farmland, Morgan Hill has a compact downtown area situated around the Monterey Highway, with a stylish community center and an open-air amphitheater, which hosts regular concerts and shows. The city is well-known for its festivals, including a Mardi Gras weekend in May, wine and music events, and the Poppy Jasper International Film Festival in April.

Foodies are well-served in the city, with Mediterranean, Thai, Greek, and Vegan eateries in plentiful supply. There's also a well-stocked farmers’ market on Depot Street, including local fruit and vegetable growers, wineries, and baked goods. The market has been in operation for over 25 years.

You’ll still find such urban activities as bowling and cinemas in Morgan Hill (there’s a Cinelux off Tennant Avenue) and plenty of shopping outlets and malls. However, for a city so close to Silicon Valley, Morgan Hill has a remarkably relaxed atmosphere and is very much in demand.
