The Arts District sits on the eastern edge of Downtown Los Angeles between the 10 Freeway and 7th Street and between South Alameda Street and the Los Angeles River. It’s a hip, trendy, and up-and-coming neighborhood with an edgy, urban feel.

In some ways, the district has always been up-and-coming. Over its nearly 200-year history, the neighborhood transitioned from citrus groves and wine vineyards to industrial warehouse district and artist stomping ground.

Along with the Arts District’s construction and an influx of new residents comes additional commercial and retail spaces. Today, it is home to trendy cafes, brewpubs, a glam bowling alley, and world-class art galleries. The old charm of its streets and buildings makes it one of the most popular television and motion picture filming locations in the city.

The vibe here is casual, certainly laid back. Did you know the average annual income of Arts District residents is nearly double that of the rest of Los Angeles County's residents? No doubt that explains the plethora of high-end shops that grace the area.

While the Arts District can at times feel remote (in a good way), it is served by the Metro Gold Line at the Little Tokyo / Arts District Station. DASH buses will shuttle you to the major transportation lines, and you can grab a bike at the local Metro Bike Station and pedal to your destination, too.

If you love loft living, be sure to check out the Arts District. For decades, converted commercial buildings and warehouses have been reborn as creative spaces and live/work lofts, many sporting beautiful brickwork. Interspersed among the older buildings, new construction of multi-unit condominiums with patios and other amenities have popped up. Construction continues at a brisk pace.

At night, folks here get some of the best, front row views of the Downtown Los Angeles skyline around. Lit up skyscrapers towering above create a kind of cozy starfield.
