About Hermosa Beach

Hermosa is the Spanish word for "beautiful," and Hermosa Beach is aptly named, given its gorgeous sandy shores. The city is known to be a little less 'showy' than Manhattan Beach, a little more down to earth. Folks here are friendly, and beach culture is the dominant vibe.

Residents enjoy the slower, laid back attitude that comes with living here. Though, throngs of tourists on weekends can be slightly disruptive when it comes to crowded roadways and not enough parking. Weekly errands like grocery shopping are better handled during the workweek or very early on a Saturday or Sunday morning before the roads get congested.

Like many other SoCal beach communities, weekend warriors pack Hermosa Beach to play volleyball, surf, swim, sunbathe, and picnic. Stores and restaurants in Pier Plaza are geared to tourists, but locals know where to find many other eateries and boutiques farther away from The Strand.

Residents and visitors alike can finish a busy day at the beach by enjoying the sunset from the sand or on the Hermosa Pier.
