Homes for Sale in Foster City

Midway between San Jose and San Francisco lies the shorefront town of Foster City. It an unusual city geographically, being entirely encircled by water, with The Bay to the north and east, Belmont Slough to the south, and Seal Slough to the west. It also shares borders with Belmont and San Mateo. The semicircular lagoon in the city center offers many waterfront residences for the many tech industry workers who live locally. Living in Foster City

There are plenty of opportunities to kayak, paddleboard, or sail in the lagoon for those who love spending time on the water. The lagoon’s curving shoreline is mirrored in the city’s attractive concentric curving streets, and treelined avenues contain plenty of shopping precincts and parks. The dramatic San Mateo-Hayward Bridge extends into the bay from the city's northernmost point.

The neighborhood to the northwest of the bridge is a commercial zone called Chess, with a thriving community of small businesses and corporate HQs. The rest of the town is primarily residential. It offers a beautiful respite from more bustling cities to the north and south, with excellent transport links to Silicon Valley via BART, CalTrain, and shuttle services. The quiet neighborhoods appeal to young professionals, although restaurants tend to close early, so you’ll have to go elsewhere for after-hours nightlife.

Foster City is a great place to live, with loads of sports facilities. There are over fifteen small parks and plenty of outdoor events and festivals, including free live music in the evenings in Leo Ryan Park Meadow, drive-in movies, a Halloween festival, and a community bike ride in September.

Foster City is a real draw for those who want a safe but active local community feel with good transport links and lots of watersports.
