Rancho District, Burbank
The Rancho (a.k.a. Rancho Adjacent) neighborhood certainly carries a rustic name. Visit it, and you may agree the moniker is well suited. The area has a tranquil, rural feel - a hidden gem in the Glendale Narrows section of the Los Angeles River.
But what makes it so special?
First, you probably wouldn't expect it - living in a major urban area - but you might see horses or carriages on the street pass your home, making their way to-and-from Griffith Park (53-miles of trails for humans and equine friends alike).
In fact, you can board your horse at the Los Angeles Equestrian Center. Don’t own a horse? No problem. Take a guided ride with the good folks at Circle K Riding Stables! Trails in Griffith Park lead to great viewpoints where you can take in panoramic views of the San Fernando Valley, Hollywood, and Downtown Los Angeles.
Homes in Rancho are well-maintained with lovely landscaping, including native California plants. The Rancho Neighborhood parks also contribute to the charming, rural vibe here.
Mountain View Park is a small pocket park with a basketball court, playground, tennis courts, picnic tables and horseshoe pit (naturally).
Check out Bette Davis Picnic Area with its river views, grassy fields, and shade trees. Walk or jog the 1.8-mile out-and-back trail. The pet-friendly park is perfect for walking Fido or your goat (seriously). Better yet, take an outdoor yoga class. The park is a great spot for a family picnic and, who knows, you might catch a few horses grazing nearby.
Most routine errands can be handled within the neighborhood at Rancho Marketplace, a strip mall with a Pavilions grocery store, bank, and several other retail stores and services.
Join a bowling league at Pickwick Bowl, a longtime neighborhood favorite for family-friendly fun. Maybe even go early and hit the bar for happy hour. Knocking back a beer or two is a sure-fire strategy to improve your score!
Walt Disney Studios and Disney Animation reside within the Rancho District borders. ABC Television and Warner Bros. studios are just down the street, making this neighborhood a perfect spot for folks who work there and don’t like long commutes.
