About Bradbury, CA

This compact city was founded by Lewis Leonard Bradbury in 1881 when he bought 2,750 acres of the Rancho Azusa de Duarte. The following year, Bradbury built an elegant home and gardens, which is now the site of the Royal Oaks Manor retirement community. After World War II, the area began to see widespread growth, and large parcels were sold to developers. To prevent Bradbury from becoming overrun, residents joined together to start the incorporation process, which was completed in 1957.

Clocking in at less than two square miles, Bradbury retains a friendly rural atmosphere. Residents enjoy the absence of any commercial development, and there are no sidewalks or traffic signals in the city. Today, Bradbury comprises three distinct areas: Bradbury Estates, a large gated community with 5-acre minimum estates, Bradbury Oaks Estates (Woodlyn Lane), a smaller gated community featuring 2-acre minimum lots, and an ungated portion of the city featuring more modest homes.

Much of Bradbury is zoned for horses, and most residents ride. Picturesque trails run throughout the community, offering residents the opportunity to get out and enjoy the beautiful scenery from horseback. Further afield, miles of hiking trails can be found in the San Gabriel Mountains. Popular hiking areas include Monrovia Hillside Preserve and Vassar Canyon.

Although there's no commercial development in Bradbury, residents are spoiled for choice in the neighboring communities. Monrovia is home to a charming Old Town area just a five-minute drive from Bradbury to the west. Historic buildings house independent boutiques, galleries, and a fantastic selection of restaurants and bars. There's also a popular Friday night street fair that showcases local farmers and craftspeople.

Just beyond Bradbury's southern border, residents can find all the services and big-name shopping they need, including banks, pharmacies, and department stores.

Bradbury is a tight-knit community, and residents love gathering for regular events and celebrations. Popular local activities include holiday celebrations, sports tournaments, and annual neighborhood parties.
